Fear. Panic attacks. Obsessive thoughts and compulsions. Looming anxiety at every corner. Beyond typical teenage angst, this was Solome Tibebu’s every day life as an adolescent. After suffering for several years and not finding the online resource needed for hurting yet motivated Millennials, she founded the first online community for teens with mental health issues and their families in 2006, www.AnxietyInTeens.org.
Today, Anxiety In Teens 501(c)3 has touched millions of people throughout the world. As the leading teen mental health magazine, Anxiety In Teens offers content for youth, college students, parents and more. In a world where negative and dangerous social media content is spread rapidly, Anxiety In Teens serves as a positive influence on many social media platforms. Anxiety In Teens’ unique youth-led model allows for young adults’ voices to be heard and, finally, understood.
Learning Through Service
We believe in the power of the youth voice. Anxiety In Teens leverages a diverse pool of contributors, including respected clinicians, authors, educators, parents, but most importantly, young adults. First developed together with the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, Anxiety In Teens’ Learning Through Service program allows for college students across the country to take part in meaningful journaling and self-reflection internships. Lead by Allisun Griffits, MSW, young adult AiT Contributors take part in a virtual program to learn about psycho-education, expressing themselves through media and writing, and giving back.
OutRun Anxiety 5K Walk/Run
Throughout the year, Anxiety In Teens hosts a number of offline events, including our premier event, the OutRun Anxiety 5K Walk/Run. These OutRun Anxiety events generate awareness for teen mental health and provided the needed funding for Anxiety In Teens to develop programs for youth and families.
